What is Christianity?

Christianity is the religion that uses the Bible as its sacred text. Christians believe that we are all children of God. To bring us salvation, God sent His son Jesus Christ to die for your and my sins. He was crucified to offer forgiveness for our sins so we could live.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life."

These 24 words from John 3:16 sum up the Bible in one sentence. In a broken world where men and women just like you and me have fallen short of who God created us to be, there is hope for us. Jesus Christ, God's one and only Son, died for us on the Cross so that we would be saved, we could be free of sin, and that we could be reconciled with God to start all over again.

On the third day after being nailed to the Cross, Jesus rose again. By rising from the dead, Jesus demonstrated that He had cleansed the guilt of our past and is able to help us in our present lives. In the Christian faith, your being saved by the loving God has already been done. There is nothing that you need to do to prove your worth to God. All you have to do is accept God's salvation through Jesus Christ as your savior. Why? Because God is love. And God loves you.

1 John 4:19 says: "We love because Jesus first loved us." So much so that He voluntarily took our sin upon Himself and died for you and me. Have you ever experienced that kind of love in your heart?

How do I become a Christian?

If you are curious how to walk a new path in your spiritual life and get to know this Jesus as the anchor of your soul, just as He is of mine, here is a simple prayer you could pray to invite Him into your own heart and begin a relationship with God.

A prayer is a simple conversation between you and the loving God who created you. You can just say this out loud right now, or say it quietly in your heart. If you call on His name, God will hear you!

Heavenly Father,
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
And today, I make Jesus the Lord of my life.
I believe He died to forgive my sin,
and rose again to give me life.
I receive this new life.
This is my new beginning.
Amen.
